An initiate can, therefore, sincerely and with simplicity, practice the religion in which he was born, since all rites represent differently one and the same dogma, but he must not open the depths of his conscience to anyone but God, nor render accounts of his most intimate beliefs to anyone whatsoever. How could the priest judge what the Pope himself does not understand? The external signs of the initiate are modest science, philanthropy without ostentation, equality of character, and unalterable kindness. - Eliphas Lévi
